A man has been arrested and charged with arson in connection with a fire at a Housing New Zealand property in Mosgiel late last year.

Detective Reece Munro, of Dunedin CIB, today said police had arrested and charged a 30-year-old man in connection with the blaze,  at a property on Perth St on October 1.

The property was vacant at the time and no-one was injured; however, the house was extensively damaged and has since been demolished.

Neighbours were briefly evacuated during the blaze.

The man has been charged with arson and is due to appear in Dunedin District Court on April 10.

Det Munro thanked the public for their assistance at the time of the fire as well as during the investigation.
