The competition attracted 129 entries, a club record, president Kim Rapley said.
All fish entered were filleted, bagged and auctioned off to raise money for community groups, he said.
Prizes were awarded based on the weight of the catch and fishermen tended to put all their catch in "because they know it goes back to the community".
Nigel O'Leary and Zane O'Leary had a "reasonable" day's fishing and made the most of the good conditions.
It was the first time they had entered the competition and did so to "support the community", Mr O'Leary said.
In a "secret location", they caught a crayfish, a groper and six blue cod.
Last year, the auction, run by Colin Weatherall, raised $6000.
Mr Rapley hoped to raise more this year and was pleased with the result of $6500.
A beach day, run in conjunction with the fishing competition, attracted about 60 children, for challenges which included building the best sandcastle and catching the biggest cockabully.
