The auction was held to raise money for the Otago Regional Rescue Helicopter and meant all the fish weighed in for the competition were gutted and filleted for auction.
Festival committee secretary Debbie Still said the auction raised $330, but would be topped up to $500 by the Eastern Boating and Fishing Club, which organised the event.
Jeff Bartlett and club president Glen Beaton were on the filleting deck making their way through buckets of fish.
''It's all for a good cause,'' Mr Bartlett said.
About 122 people took part in the competition on 38 boats - a good turnout due to the good weather, Ms Still said.
It was a family outing for many. One of the younger fishermen, Riley Dixon (12), caught his first trumpeter in conditions he described as ''a bit rough''.
The heaviest fish was a 3.28kg barracouta cought by Craig Mitchell, and the women's heaviest fish was 2.74kg, caught by Claire Musskett
