Clear skies and settled weather are in store for Anzac Day in Otago, MetService says.

The Easter weekend’s overcast and drizzly conditions are set to ease by the end of the week in time for the commemorations on Friday.

MetService meteorologist Oscar Shiviti said last night’s showers and this morning’s cloudy weather were due to clear up tonight.

A southwesterly wind would create some fine spells this afternoon and clear the precipitation.

There would be a dip in temperature overnight, he said.

Regions around Otago were expected to drop into the lower single digits.

Alexandra was expected to have the lowest temperature at -1°C.

The good news was the cold weather would not last long and there would be an improvement in temperatures tomorrow going into Friday, Mr Shiviti said.

"Light winds and clear skies are on the cards for Anzac Day."

Temperatures across Otago would reach highs between 15°C and 20°C and lows between 4°C and 9°C.

Dawn services across the region should go uninterrupted with relatively light winds.
