Police divert traffic in Belleknowes after a truck downed telecommunications lines in Dunedin yesterday.

The truck had a crane attached to it, a police spokeswoman said.

The Chorus lines were down near the intersection of Stone and Napier Sts in Belleknowes and Mataora Rd in Kenmure from about 4.45pm, a police spokeswoman said.

Inquiries into the incident were continuing, she said.

A Chorus spokesman said wires and a pole were also downed by the truck in Hawthorne Ave, Mornington.

Technicians made the areas safe last night and repairs would be completed this morning, he said.

In an unrelated incident, there was a two-hour outage  in Dunedin from about 9.30am yesterday, he said.

The outage, due to a fault on the network, affected up to 3000 customers.
