Change sought in loan

Veterans' Affairs Minister Michael Woodhouse is considering a request to change conditions of a $2.725 million government loan to the Montecillo Veterans Home and Hospital Trust.

Mr Woodhouse, a Dunedin list MP, received a letter from the trust last month requesting changes to aspects of the loan agreement.

A spokesman for the minister said he was considering the request it contained.

''The minister will respond in due course.''

Changes requested by the trust were not publicly disclosed.

Trust members have raised concerns about loan conditions to various ministers and governments over the years.

The loan was granted in 2004 and 2005 for the redevelopment of the Montecillo Veterans Home and Hospital at St Kilda.

Money was lent on the basis it was repaid when there were no longer any World War 2 veterans living in the home, or in the event the home was sold or transferred from trust ownership.

The loan was also subject to interest, charged at a capital rate and to be paid with the principal.
