The fun to be had in the great outdoors will be on display at an expo in Dunedin this weekend.

The biennial Go Outdoor Otago Boat and Outdoor Show will feature the latest boats, jet skis, kayaks, caravans, recreational vehicles, tents, camping, leisure and electronic equipment and fishing and diving gear.

"For the first time, we'll also be doing free demonstrations of the gear in Dunedin," organiser Tony Smoor, of Christchurch, said.

"It creates a lot of added interest if people can come along and have a go. It's all about getting people out there and having a go. We're sowing the seeds and trying to get more people out enjoying the water. You've got the water here, right on your doorstep in Dunedin. It's a great harbour and it's really under-utilised."

Shuttle buses will run from the Edgar Centre to Vauxhall Yacht Club today and tomorrow, so the public can experience watersports such as sailing, jet skiing and kayaking.

The show will also include jet-ski demonstrations by Steve Amende, of Dunedin, and Chris Farnley, of Christchurch.

The latest model by Dunedin boat builder Seahorse Boats, the Liberty 955, will also be unveiled at the show.

The Go Outdoor Otago Boat and Outdoor Show is on at the Edgar Centre from 10am-6pm today and 10am-4.30pm tomorrow.
