Councillors will be able to push for changes to statements of intent being prepared by the Dunedin City Council’s group of companies.
Draft statements — charting the companies’ courses for the next three years — were presented to yesterday’s full council meeting.
But, rather than make changes "by committee" yesterday, council chief executive Sue Bidrose invited councillors to email her with details of any changes they wanted to be considered. They would be forwarded to the companies to consider, and responses would be presented publicly at the next committee meeting round, she said.
Councillors could then vote on which changes they wanted to request formally, leading to a formal response from the companies at the following meeting round, she said.
Ultimately, if agreement between councillors and the companies could not be reached, councillors could vote to require changes, she said.
