Chance to boost foodbank today

Presbyterian Support Otago invites Dunedin citizens get into the spirit of its midwinter foodbank appeal today.

Cans of food will be collected in the Octagon for Octacan 2012 and then arranged to form a giant koru.

"We start at 7.30am, so people can donate on their way to work, then schools deliver their generous collections later in the morning," communication and fundraising director Lisa Wells said yesterday.

"Businesses and families drop by during the day and, at 3pm, we dismantle the koru and stock the foodbank's shelves."

Donations of food items in packets, rather than cans, such as flour, sugar, rice, pasta and cereals, will also be welcome at the Octacan event.

Octacan 2012 is being held in the lower Octagon from 7.30am till 3pm today.
