Layla Yosef (2) and her parents Khaled Yosef and Nouran Elhawary enjoy crafts, activities and food at the Trade Aid store in George St, Dunedin, as they celebrate World Fair Trade Day on Saturday.

Trade Aid Dunedin senior supervisor Helen Ransby said the in-store event was all about celebrating fair trade and trying to put it on the map.

Fair-trade goods were better for people from developing countries economically, socially and environmentally, she said.

It was also the 50-year anniversary of Trade Aid, which was started in Christchurch as a pop-up shop in 1973.

People had really got on board with the day, Ms Ransby said.

While the store sold a range of products, its most popular goods were coffee and chocolates.
