Cartoonists from around the world have used their mouths as well as their pens this week to inform people in Wellington about their work on issues which threaten peace.
Cartooning for Peace was brought to New Zealand by Alliance Francaise, a global organisation which promotes French language and culture.
A group of 20 cartoonists from 15 countries, including four New Zealanders, participated in a two-day symposium and had their work displayed publicly.
The event has run for the past two years in Europe, the Middle East and the United States as a way for cartoonists to discuss how they have informed, and sometimes formed, public opinion on issues of international peace.
A branch of the event is coming to Dunedin tomorrow at 6.30pm in the Archway 2 lecture theatre at the University of Otago.
French cartoonist Pierre Wiazemsky (Wiaz) will give a practical demonstration of his work and, along with Otago Daily Times cartoonist Garrick Tremain, participate in a panel discussion with the audience.
Mr Wiazemsky has worked as a cartoonist for the past 40 years for such publications as Le Nouvel Observateur and La Provence.
His work presents a left-wing perspective and often focuses on the French political class.
Mr Tremain has worked for the past 20 years as a cartoonist.
His work will also be presented.
