District Court bailiff Dave Boucher fixes a seizure sticker to a car at a Dunedin impound yard as Constable Jon Dunn (left) and Acting Sergeant Andrew Camp, both of the strategic traffic unit, check some of the 10 vehicles seized in a four-hour joint operation yesterday.

The operation targeted people with outstanding fines.

Acting Sgt Camp said dozens of cars were stopped and police and court staff were pleased with the haul.

The Ministry of Justice was unable to provide details of the seizures or amount of related fines yesterday.

A spokesman said while police carried out breath tests on drivers and warrant of fitness and registration checks on vehicles, court staff checked records for any unpaid fines.

The joint operations had proved highly successful, with money for outstanding fines being collected on the spot and after operations.

Getting out and being visible reinforced the general message to the community about the need for people to take responsibility for their fines, he said.
