Car spiked after petrol drive-off; person nipped and nabbed

An occupant of a car spiked by police in central Dunedin last night needed medical attention following a bite from a police dog when trying to escape on foot.

Two other occupants were taken into custody. A police spokeswoman said police responded to a report of a petrol drive-off in Factory Rd, Mosgiel, about 7.40pm.

A short time later the car involved in the drive-off was seen in Stuart St, where it was spiked.

When the car came to a stop at the intersection with Moray Pl, the occupants got out and ran.

A dog handler attended and a dog tracked the occupants. One of those fleeing was bitten by a police dog, the spokeswoman said.
