The female driver, of Dunedin, the sole occupant, was not injured in the incident, which happened near Macandrew Bay.
Senior Sergeant Kelvin Lloyd said it appeared the driver lost control of the car on the slippery road while going around a corner, and the vehicle hit a bank then tipped on to its side.
''People at the scene said the road was quite slippery, although not from ice. We notified the council so they could check for any problems,'' he said. The driver was treated by St John staff at the scene and the vehicle was towed away.
St Kilda firefighters also attended.
