The University of Otago has topped off another successful year by celebrating the research and teaching expertise of its academics.
Thirty-nine of them - from across all areas of the university and locations from Wellington to Invercargill — have been promoted to the position of professor.
Vice-chancellor Prof David Murdoch praised the quality, achievements, talent and dedication of those being promoted.
"In what has been a turbulent year, it is wonderful to be able to end it celebrating the research and teaching expertise of such a diverse group of people, and honouring the depth of academic talent we have at Otago.
"I look forward to their future teaching, research and service achievements."
He said the university’s promotion process involved a thorough evaluation of each individual’s record of contributions to research, teaching and service to the university and community.
It also involved input from international experts in evaluating the candidates’ research contributions.
A further 44 academics were promoted to associate professor, research associate professor and clinical associate professor.
The promotions take effect from February 1, 2023.
