Mornington's historic cable cars have returned to the Dunedin suburb they used to service - almost.
Two of three cable cars that will grace a recently erected building at Mornington Park arrived at the site after a trip from Christchurch this morning.
The plan was to lift them off a truck using a crane, but another larger crane had to be ordered for the job to be done.
The work to unload them into the building was now expected to be completed about noon.
It is the first stage of a project that organisers hope will precede the return of the High St cable car.
The building is intended as an interim structure to house the cable cars while the trust seeks to re-establish the route to Mornington.
