Palmerston bus users are concerned about a new travel route.
The number one bus stop is positioned well away from George St and far from the new bus hub on Great King St. There are also issues over taxi transfers and Saturday services from the bus hub.
Bus passengers will be disadvantaged by the new bus route, a Palmerston bus user told the Otago Daily Times.
Previously, the bus from Palmerston turned off State Highway 1 to set down passengers at the Gardens bus stop on Bank St and then travelled along George St to the Octagon.
A number of passengers on two of the Otago Regional Council services from Palmerston got off at the Gardens stop and at stops in the shopping area along George St, she said.
Now they would have to get off at infrequent stopping places along the one-way south on SH1, the user said.
The new bus hub with the Palmerston bus stop was only a short distance from shops in George St, an Otago Regional Council spokesman said earlier this week.
A transfer from the Palmerston bus to a taxi, which had been easily achieved at the Octagon terminus for the service would be very difficult at the new bus hub, another Palmerston bus user said.
There appeared to be no taxi stands in or close to the new bus hub.
The ORC bus services through the bus hub started last weekend but no weekend services to Palmerston listed in the Otago Regional Council bus timetable.
