Police are investigating the possibility a driver who crashed a bus into a barrier, a bus shelter and then a rock retaining wall in Ravensbourne last night had a medical event immediately before the crash.
Police, fire and ambulance staff attended the crash, near the intersection of State Highway 88 and Adderley Tce, at 5.10pm.
The Otago Road Services bus, which was travelling from Port Chalmers towards Dunedin, crashed into a barrier and bus shelter on its side of the road, travelled into the opposite lane and crashed into the wall, blocking a lane of traffic, Senior Sergeant Kelvin Lloyd, of Dunedin, said.
The bus was not carrying passengers at the time. The driver received minor injuries and was treated at Dunedin Hospital.
Traffic heading from Dunedin to Port Chalmers was congested for about an hour while the bus was removed.
The man might have had a medical event, but police would have to wait for medical reports before that could be determined, Snr Sgt Lloyd said.
Otago Road Services management was assisting police with their inquiries.
