It took more than 40 years but on Saturday night long-time Eagles fan Glen Miller was able to tick one band off his bucket list.

As a "real keen" fan of the American rock band, he jumped at the chance to see one of his all-time favourites perform live in his home town.

Soaking up the atmosphere in the Octagon before the show, Mr Miller said he could not imagine how the night could be any better.

"This is cool, we're real keen fans and being in Dunedin just makes it even more awesome. A lot of the others on my bucket list aren't around any more, so to see the Eagles in my home town is pretty cool."

Asked if there was one song in particular he was excited to hear live, without so much as a pause he said Hotel California.

"Life in the Fast Lane is pretty good but you can't go past Hotel California. The guitar in that is just one of the best ever and apparently Joe Walsh still kills it live."

His devotion to the Eagles also extended to his family.

"I've got my wife with me and our kids and their partners. You can't get much better than this," he said.
