Brownies are the new black, or at the very least the new navy.

To celebrate the centenary of Girl Guides and Brownies, uniforms from yesterday were paraded in front of an appreciative audience at the annual Halfway Bush Union Church Spring Flower Show and Fair on Saturday.

Brownies no longer wear brown, but members of the Halfway Bush Brownies and Guides enjoyed turning back the clock, modelling every uniform since 1908.

"The girls have enjoyed looking at and wearing the uniforms, and I think they have realised how difficult it would be to do the activities they enjoy today while wearing the older uniforms," Brownies leader Jo Henderson said.

The girls were fascinated by the different badges and the array of dresses and hats.

"I think they prefer today's uniform, though."

These days girls wear navy hoodies, with three-quarter navy pants and pink T-shirts as part of their uniforms.

"No more brown for Brownies," she said.
