The hospice was regarded as a "friend in need", which prompted a $5000 donation to the organisation, partner Richard Thomas said.
The advisers of the Highland Group are self employed and individually made the contributions to the hospice fund.
They had been long-time supporters of the Cancer Society and said the donation to the hospice was a follow-on of that support.
"They do a great job for the community," Mr Thomas said of the hospice.
Because nearly everyone knew of someone who had used the organisation, the group was thinking of the "end user" when it decided to financially contribute, Mr Thomas said.
The Otago Daily Times' "Help the Hospice" campaign was certainly worthwhile, he said.
"It's good to see a leading community business taking a lead."
While he acknowledged the economy was "tightening up a little bit", he said the more money the hospice could receive the better.
"The more that can support it, the better it is for those that need to use the facilities."
