Members of the Brash family gathered in Mosgiel on Saturday to celebrate the arrival of their forefathers in Dunedin 150 years ago.

Family reunion organiser Evan Lewis, of Dunedin, said 67 people from around New Zealand and Australia attended the event.

One of the family's better-known members, former National Party leader Don Brash, was overseas and unable to attend.

The family's founders, William Brash, a bootmaker from Scotland, and his wife Catherine, arrived in Dunedin on July 13, 1858 and settled in Mosgiel before buying a farm on Saddle Hill.

Those attending the reunion visited the farm, which is no longer in family ownership, on Saturday, before a dinner and an opportunity to share their stories.

Three of the Brashes' children were married at the East Taieri Presbyterian Church and family members attended a service there on Sunday.
