Dunedin's consistent surf and stunning coastal scenery is being promoted internationally.
Australian surfer, photographer and blogger Eugene Tan has spent the past few days in Dunedin exploring the coast with Gisborne surfing legend Maz Quinn.
Mr Tan was impressed with the surf at Aramoana and Blackhead, where he donned a wetsuit.
It was his first visit to Dunedin, prompted by Mr Quinn's praise of the area.
''I did a tour of the North Island with Maz last year and he couldn't stop talking about this place. You've got great waves here. If you had warm water, it would be packed,'' Mr Tan said.
Mr Tan said Dunedin's surf community was small but its warmth made up for the water's ''stinging'' cold.
''Everyone is so great, so friendly.''
Despite being used to Sydney's warm weather and temperate seas at Bondi Beach, Mr Tan said wetsuit technology had ''come such a long way'' there was no reason to steer clear of the southern coast.
He lasted more than two hours at a time in the water around Dunedin and was keen to return.
His photography from the trip and words of praise for Otago's landscape, towns and people has been posted on his Aquabumps website, which has 40,000 daily email subscribers, 150,000 unique reads every month and 58,000 Facebook followers.
Mr Tan also wrote about his experiences in Wanaka and Queenstown, where he spent a couple of days before heading to Dunedin.
Tourism Dunedin was involved in hosting Mr Tan.
