The Working Class Man is coming to the Dunedin Town Hall.

Australian rocker Jimmy Barnes will perform in the city on Saturday, November 29, as part of a four-stop New Zealand tour marking 30 years as a solo artist.

The ''30:30 Hindsight'' tour will start in Hamilton on November 25, followed by shows in Auckland and Christchurch, before concluding in Dunedin.

The tour will also feature support act the Dead Daisies, headed by expatriate New Zealand frontman Jon Stevens and featuring members of Guns N' Roses and Whitesnake.

Barnes will perform two of his classic albums in full, For The Working Class Man and Freight Train Heart, among other hit songs.

It is the third recent concert success for Dunedin Venues Management Ltd, which runs Forsyth Barr Stadium and Dunedin Centre/Town Hall complex.

Barnes' announcement followed news Lorde will perform a sellout show at the town hall on October 29, followed by Rod Stewart's stadium concert on April 11 next year.

DVML chief executive Terry Davies said all three could be attributed to the closer relationship being forged with Melbourne-based promoter Frontier Touring, headed by Michael Gudinski.

''It's another international quality act coming to Dunedin which probably, over the years, would have bypassed us, but we are giving them reason to come now,'' he said.

It was now up to the public to show their support for the event to ensure concerts would continue coming, he said.

DVML was also working closely with another Melbourne-based promoter, Dainty Group, to bring more shows to Dunedin.

Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull said confirmation of the latest concert - following on from recent announcements - was more good news for the city.

''These are well-known names that will retain a following in the city.

''It gives everyone the opportunity [to go], and judging by the interest in Lorde ... there's a good healthy audience here that wants to pick up on those opportunities if they're available.''

Barnes' Dunedin show would dip into a song catalogue spanning 40 years in total which has seen him produce more hit albums than any other Australian artist.

That included 14 Top 40 albums for Cold Chisel, 13 charting solo albums in Australia and 10 No 1 songs. He has also made regular visits to New Zealand.

Tickets, costing $85 plus fees, would go on sale from midday on Monday, September 29.
