The organisation received a trophy and $1500 prize money, along with the chance to represent Dunedin at the 2009 TrustPower National Community Awards.
TrustPower community relations representative Melanie Gray said the organisation had 135 volunteers who met learners for weekly hour-long sessions and paid their own travel costs.
They also acted as advocates for their clients, helped them access services, and understand New Zealand's culture.
Other winners were -Orokonui Ecosanctuary Volunteers (heritage and environment category); St Johns Anglican Church, Roslyn (health and well-being); The Regent Theatre/Otago Theatre Trust Volunteers (arts and culture); Purakanui Amenities Society (sport and leisure).
