Mosgiel's Amana Christian School plans to expand next year into secondary school education.
The inter-denominational independent school was established in 2000 to provide Christ-centred primary and intermediate schooling on the Taieri.
School principal Roslyn King said the school was extending into secondary education and was applying to the Ministry of Education to become an Area School providing the Accelerated Christian Education (Ace) curriculum.
The Ace curriculum is a complete, pre-planned, prepared, multi-learning style programme written from a biblical world view, and covers pre-school, primary, secondary and adult education.
Mrs King said the curriculum was similar to that used in home schooling, and offered the opportunity to tailor-make a programme that met the individual needs of each pupil.
Staff at the school were fully qualified to supervise the programme, she said.
It was decided to expand the educational scope of the school after a survey was sent to parents on the Taieri at the end of last year, to see if there was interest for Christ-centred secondary education, which there was.
The school has more than 25 pupils.
Mrs King said it was hoped about a dozen secondary school pupils would be enrolled at the school in term 1 next year.
A ballooning roll at Liberton Christian School in Pine Hill, Dunedin, this year has forced the board of trustees to apply to the Ministry of Education for a roll-cap increase to meet demand.
