Emergency services were mobilised to Dunedin Airport yesterday evening after a plane reported problems with its landing gear.
The plane’s pilot radioed to report difficulties about 5.45pm, and he was asked to circle the airport.
The plane, which was understood to have seven passengers on board, landed safely just before 6pm.
Mainland Air owner Phil Kean said the plane was flying from Invercargill to Dunedin.
‘‘The pilot was coming in to land and he expected the landing gear to go down but the indicator lights showed that they weren’t down,’’ Mr Kean said.
‘‘They did what they are trained to do, put the right procedures in place, and circled around to ensure that the wheels were down and locked.’’
Onlookers on the ground were able to confirm that the landing gear was in place and the plane then landed without incident, Mr Kean said.
