Airborne car crash reason medical

A 25-year-old man suffered a medical event while driving through the Kaikorai Rugby Football Club car park, in Lynn St, at 1.30pm on Saturday.

His foot became stuck on the vehicle’s accelerator, Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said

The man drove on to the field for about 100m before

the vehicle became airborne, cleared a set of flax bushes and crashed into the Arai Te Uru Marae.

Nobody else was involved and the man was not injured.

He was taken to hospital and forbidden to drive.

Later that day, at 11.35pm, witnesses called police after seeing a car crash into the fence at Bathgate Park School.

The driver fled and police were making inquiries, Snr Sgt Bond said.

On Friday, police were checking speeds on the Southern Motorway.

Police stopped a 19-year-old man who was driving 155kmh north into Dunedin about 2.20pm.

He had his licence suspended for 28 days and will appear in court.
