New Zealand actress and acting coach Miranda Harcourt was asked to run a screen acting workshop for 22 actors and directors from around the South Island on Saturday by Film Otago Southland.
Harcourt runs acting workshops around the world, and has coached Hollywood stars such as Nicole Kidman and Melanie Lynskey, and has worked alongside directors such as Peter Jackson and Jane Campion.
She recently returned from giving a workshop at the Toronto Film Festival in Canada, and this week she will give another workshop online for actors in Sydney.
She said there had been many screen acting opportunities in recent years, with the filming of The Royal Treatment and The Power of the Dog, but there were many more film projects on the horizon for the region.
The aim is to upskill local acting talent to star in films being made here, she said.
"It’s not just all about the beauty of the location, it’s also about the capacity of the people who are going to be acting in the location.
"I’m here to help Otago and Southland actors up their game so they can get to be where they want to be."
Those at the workshop said it was a fantastic opportunity to learn from one of the best in the business.
