Police were called the scene at the intersection of Thorn and David Sts shortly after 3pm, and established a detour. The uninjured driver of the 4WD Toyota told the Otago Daily Times a Holden Commodore ran through a stop sign as it travelled southwest on Thorn St and into his vehicle as he drove southeast on David St. His Toyota Hilux Surf, with 32-inch tyres, ended up on top of a Ford Falcon parked on David St.
The female driver of the Holden was assisted by members of the public who helped her walk to an ambulance, before being taken to Dunedin Hospital for assessment. There was no word from police on whether the woman had driven through the stop sign.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand station officer from Lookout Point said crews had secured the Hilux but were not required to free either driver.
