A swarm of people charged through the doors of the Regent Theatre at noon today for the opening of the 24-hour book sale.
Within five minutes of opening many determined book buyers had already filled large jumble bags with books.
Books from the New Zealand section and Arts/Music were swooped up as quickly as they were placed on on tables.
Regent Theatre 24-hour book sale volunteer Bob Sims said the opening was often the busiest time for the massive sale.
"It is fantastic.
"We have been open five minutes and the place is packed."
The 36th annual book sale will finish tomorrow at midday.
