The deputy principal will step into her new role as principal at the start of next year. She was acting principal from March to October this year.
That experience, combined with a ‘‘fantastic’’ team, made her confident about leading the school, she said.
Those two and a-half terms as principal had been ‘‘very satisfying’’ and she had enjoyed how the role gave her the chance to get ‘‘a taste of everything’’.
‘‘I just love this school.’’
Being a principal, each day was different. Some days she was dealing with property and finances, while others she was organising school camps, she said.
There was a lot going on next year, especially with Covid-19 and changes to the NCEA system, but she was looking forward to it.
Mrs Davidson began her teaching career at James Hargest College in Invercargill before spending some time teaching in London.
After returning to New Zealand she began at Otago Girls’ as a reliever teacher in 1994.
Since then she has sampled much of what the school had to offer, including teaching geography, English and being a career education leader before becoming the head of the social sciences department, where she spent more than 10 years.
In 2011 she became the assistant principal and in 2020 became deputy principal.
Principal Linda Miller announced her resignation in July after more than 10 years in the role.
