What was the best birthday present you ever received, and why?
A beautiful silver Palamo Picasso brooch, Hugs and Kisses, from Tiffany's, of New York. It was given to me before my 50th birthday 27 years ago by my husband Michael, who died 18 days before my birthday.

War, terrorism and human-induced climate change.
What is one strong childhood memory?
Growing up in Waianiwa, Southland, a small farming area. Wrapping up in warm clothing with gumboots on; a freedom to enjoy the elements. It was a wonderful, rich way of life. It has given me a great respect for the weather.
You are a new addition to the crayon box. What colour are you, and why?
Blue, of course. It is my maiden name. Never dull or pale, only a bright, positive blue.
