The drink claims millions

A total of 2.6 million deaths in 2019 can be attributed to drinking alcohol, according to a report on alcohol and other substance use from the World Health Organisation (WHO). The report says 7% of the world’s population aged 15 and over have an alcohol use disorder, and problematic alcohol and other drug use continues to have a major impact on health and development around the world. The report outlines various strategies to reduce the use and misuse of drugs and alcohol to meet upcoming health targets, including strengthening healthcare systems, training health professionals and increasing awareness of the risks of drug and alcohol consumption.
