What was the best birthday present you ever received, and why?
My niece Mila, the first grandchild of our family, just two days before my own birthday. I also knew my birthday would be forever overshadowed from then on, but for the best reason.
What is your message?
Being a New Zealander means we have a voyaging spirit in us. We all descend from adventurers who brought us to this land, or we are the adventurer. Embrace our new frontiers here at home, every day and in whatever way means the most to you.
If you were going to an island and could only take three things, what would they be and why?
I guess they can't be people? If not, then I need my phone to talk to my family at least, a great book and, newly, my reading glasses. I should never have been smug about my formerly 20/20 vision.
What's something only your family knows about you?
I hate recurring patterns to the point of mild trypophobia.
You are a new addition to the crayon box. What colour are you, and why?
The sparkly one, that's shorter than the rest. A stubby crayon, that's at least sparkly and happy-looking.
