What was the best birthday present you ever received, and why?

A cricket bat and ball. While I was never much of a batsman, my bowling improved. My sister Noela had to face my deliveries, as we used to practise in our extended garage. She went on to represent Otago.

What's something only your family knows about you?
I'm ticklish.

What is your least favourite thing about humanity?

People who have done well, but won't contribute back to the community.

What is one strong childhood memory?

My parents believed you should not travel overseas until you had seen all of New Zealand. So each summer holidays, the family would base itself somewhere different. We learnt a lot about the country.

What is your message?

The harder you work the luckier you get; and, always clean your teeth because a smile and fresh breath always helps.
