What was the best birthday present you ever received, and why?

For my 21st, I was given a bottle of whisky from the Dunedin Distillery. It was barrelled in1989 (my birth year). I haven't opened it yet - saving it for a rainy day.

What smell do you find irresistible?

Freshly ground coffee beans. I'm a big fan of the different single origins on offer at Common Ground Coffee at the moment.

What is your least favourite thing about humanity?

Greed and selfishness. I think it is so important that people consider everything around themand try to see the bigger picture.

What is one strong childhood memory?

I still remember sitting under those willow trees on Molyneux Park, watching Otago play, and dreaming that one day I could be out there. I'm extremely lucky to be able to do just that today and it's even better when we get to go back to Alexandra for a New Year's fixture.

What is your message?

Nec sorte nec fato (Neither by chance nor fate).
