What is one strong childhood memory?
Long hot summer holidays touring Department of Conservation campsites with my family in a pop-top camper. Swimming in rivers, lengthy bush walks and card games at night. Magic.
What smell do you find irresistible?
Coffee. More specifically a flat white, preferably at the Farmer's Market on a Saturday morning when I've accidentally left the mobile phone at home.
What is your least favourite thing about humanity?
I will never understand our ability to rationalise human suffering. It allows us to turn a blind eye to so much in this world that we need to change.
What is your message?
Fairness and equity. The gap between the richest one percent and the rest has become too large. We need a society that provides everyone with dignity and that meets basic needs.
We also need a society that rewards talent and hard work, not one that rewards those who inherit wealth.
If you were going to an island and could only take three things, what would they be and why?
My family, because then it would be a holiday; my bicycle, because there's nothing like the freedom of hitting the road on my bike; and, to create a soundtrack for the experience, I'd take my music collection.
