The recipes are sourced from old New Zealand community cookbooks and include old favourites, such as ginger crunch, hokey pokey biscuits, lamingtons, shortbread, date loaf and butterfly cakes, as well as some jams and preserves.
The original measurements have been converted to metric and Johnston has written detailed instructions so the recipes are virtually foolproof for those with little or no experience. It is a beautifully produced book, illustrated with Johnston's own photographs - almost too gorgeous to be taken into the kitchen where it will inevitably get a few splashes and smears, but it is a practical cookbook.
