Bayleys Metro residential real estate marketing consultant Steven Field has a maxim: ‘‘improving your life through property’’.
Totally focused on his clients, he will do everything required to get them the best result. That approach has certainly paid off, with Steven’s work last year being recognised by the Dunedin company, when he was named a Top 5 Salesperson.
Steven’s career in real estate was launched in September 2016. Having himself bought and sold a number of properties, he realised he could probably do a better job than the real estate agents that he’d dealt with.
After a gentle push from a close friend, Steven decided to pursue real estate as a career and gained his license while still operating his own gardening business. Skills learnt in that role have proved helpful in his new one. ‘‘It was still all about client service, being there when you said you were going to be, doing what you said you would, and communication,’’ he says. ‘‘And I haven’t looked back actually; I really love my career as a real estate salesperson, I feel like I’ve found my niche.’’
Steven looked at a few real estate agencies when he got his license, and decided upon Bayleys Metro. He says it seemed like the most professional company, and that it has a great reputation. The agency has proved a great fit for him.
Having worked as a self-employed gardener, as well as moonlighting in music production, Steven loves that in real estate, if you put in the effort, the reward is there.
And there’s no question that he is prepared to put in the effort. Having sold 52 properties over the previous 12 months, whatever he is doing is working. The secret of course is in his desire to always put the client first.
‘‘It’s a lot of listening,’’ Steven explains. ‘‘It’s more important to listen than to talk, and to understand peoples’ needs and what they’re wanting to achieve.’’
Recently, he was the first Bayley’s agent nationwide to sell a property by auction post the Level 4 Lockdown. At present Dunedin properties are still selling well, and at pre-Covid-19 prices, he says.
Having taken on personal assistant, Karen, so that he can focus even more on his clients, Steven is looking forward to helping you with your next residential property.
‘‘I just really love my job; it doesn’t feel like a job,’’ he says. ‘‘I mean, I spend all day meeting and talking with nice people - it suits my ‘people personality’.’’
