Shaw Plumbing - Otago’s plumbers for 121 years

Hamish and Kaye Gardyne are the new owners of Shaw Plumbing in Mosgiel.

They are looking forward to continuing the legacy of the 121-year-old business, and offering the same great domestic plumbing services to its existing clients in Mosgiel and Dunedin.

They are a young local family with agricultural backgrounds and extensive experience in trade businesses.

Shaw Plumbing was first launched in Mosgiel in 1903 by founder Albert Shaw.

When the First World War began in 1914, he wanted to join his peers at the front. However, the Mayor of the then Mosgiel Borough Council said that because Albert was the only plumber in town, he was required for servicing the local factories and would have to stay in Mosgiel.

The business was later run by the late Eric Shaw, before Ken Shaw took the reins.

Hamish and Kaye were in the process of purchasing the business in June this year when Ken unexpectedly passed away.

‘‘It was very unfortunate that Ken was unable to be a part of the completion of the business sale,’’ Kaye says.

The new owners will be maintaining the great reputation that has been established at Shaw Plumbing over its extensive lifetime.

As well as providing domestic plumbing, gas fitting, and drain laying, they are planning to expand into the area of lifestyle and semi-rural plumbing.
