A disaster for Dorothy the dinosaur at the Mayfair Theatre had hundreds of children screaming with delight yesterday.

The Wiggles star was involved in an incident, in which a freshly baked cream cake ended up in the face of co-star Captain Feathersword, which was promptly licked off by Wags the Dog.

The uncontrollable laughter of preschool children in the audience was just as amusing for the accompanying adults.

Fortunately, the cake incident was a planned part of the Dorothy the Dinosaur Travelling Show, which has been touring New Zealand for the past month.

In the ensuing chaos, Dorothy took the audience on a trip to Japan to collect ingredients for another cake and, along the way, she met other Wiggles characters in displays of song and dance.

Two shows were given in Dunedin yesterday.

Behind the scenes, tour manager Luke Field said the Sydney-based performers were thrilled with the large audiences, but they were also looking forward to going home next week.

Even though there was still snow on the ground outside, singing and dancing inside large padded suits was hot and tiring work, he said.
