Going by foot to help save eyes

Doug Wilson (75, pictured in Oamaru yesterday) is on a mission to raise awareness of glaucoma, which can rob people of their eyesight.

The Tauranga man left Cape Reinga on June 20, intending to walk south to Bluff. But in Whangarei, police told him not to walk on the state highway. Since then, he has hitchhiked between towns, and then walked to encourage donations to Glaucoma NZ.
