Some gamers are obsessed with graphic fidelity.
Others zone in on gameplay. Sound? Not really something that has bothered me much all these years - in fact, many has been the game I have played on mute while a cricket game or something similar blared out from a second screen - but these may be the devices that change everything.
The Pulse Explore earbuds are Sony’s attempt to get into a booming market and provide the same audio quality provided by many of the impressive (and expensive) full headphone sets available.
They tick some serious boxes in terms of comfort and quality.
The buds, which look sleek and white in line with the PS5 aesthetic, snuggle into your ears with ease, and come with three extra pairs of tips if you need some tinkering.
Charging is quick and easy as the buds slip into a little cocoon, with a sliding cover, that connects via USB cable.
Sound quality is mightily impressive. I deliberately chose a couple of games with plenty of biff-boom-bang noises, and everything - movement, combat and dialogue - came through crisply and clearly. Audio from a fellow gamer was on a par with bigger headphones.
The buds have a short-ish battery life - only about five hours per charge, though they can charge twice more in the case before it needs more juice - but are handy for multi-device use through Bluetooth.
