He's been hailed as the Mozart of comedy and is one of the UK's most-loved comedians, and now Bill Bailey is returning to New Zealand with his new show, Earl of Whimsy.

Bailey was last in New Zealand for his 2016 sell-out tour Larks in Transit.

His new show weaves together the comic's trademark satire, surrealism and singalongs, while incorporating tales of Britain's past - from Vikings to Shakespeare to Bailey's own ancestry.

Bailey has been continuously touring the world selling out gigs across the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

He's also developing film and television projects for his production company, Glassbox Productions - previously responsible for Tinselworm, Bill Bailey's Remarkable Guide to the Orchestra, Dandelion Mind and Qualmpeddler.

But he's still made time to head back to New Zealand for a seven-date tour throughout the country.

He'll kick off at Dunedin's Regent Theatre on September 21 and end at Wellington's Michael Fowler Centre on October 1, hitting Christchurch, Tauranga, Hamilton, New Plymouth and Auckland in between.

Tickets go on sale at 1pm on June 5 via Ticket Direct for Dunedin, Ticketmaster for Auckland and Wellington, and Ticketek for all other locations.
