Five masters rowers from Port Chalmers will leave today for Copenhagen for the world masters rowing championships.
The five women, all from the Port Chalmers United Rowing Club, will compete in various events at the regatta, which attracted plenty of entries.
Imogen Coxhead (56), Robyn Cameron (56), Jan Brosnahan (59), Karin Tierney (56) and Michelle Johnson (45) will make up the team which will compete in two quads, three doubles and two singles.
The rowers have been training over the winter on Otago Harbour, going out on the water on most afternoons and weekends, plus training indoors.
Completely different weather was expected in Copenhagen.
Coxhead said the competition was of a high standard with many former Olympians lining up.
Masters rowing is over 2000m and raced in age categories.
There are 3384 entries for the championships from 586 clubs across 47 nations.
The women competed at the last masters competition in Tasmania a couple of years ago, and brought back some medals for their efforts.
The competition starts on September 8 and runs through to September 11.
