If a rabbit tucking into pansies outside the Dunedin Railway Station was perplexed by its environment, it did not reveal its puzzlement.
Dunedin Botanic Garden curator Alan Matchett said he would not expect to see a rabbit in front of the railway station.
Nor was it eager to hop on to more familiar ground.
It munched away while gardeners tended plots in Anzac Sq yesterday afternoon, and when they attempted to catch the rabbit, it proved elusive.

"It is unusual, with all the traffic going past and people around. Unless it’s an ex-pet."
Mr Matchett said some wild rabbits frequented the city’s botanic garden, but numbers in the area were kept under control.
