Ritchies bus drivers and supporters picket the Octagon in Dunedin as part of industrial action taken by a group of drivers on Saturday morning.

The drivers stopped work from 7am on Saturday until 7am yesterday after a breakdown in negotiations about increased wages with the company.

One of the striking bus drivers, Peter Curzon, said there had been a lot of support from members of the public.

None of the company's bus services were affected by the strike, including its cruise ship shuttles and public transport routes.

Ritchies said it hoped a resolution to the deadlock could be reached soon.

Before raising wages ORC needs to cut costs of the bus service, it is a horrible loss making machine at the moment. There should be smaller buses or even vans instead, just run them more frequently during peak hours. Buses are almost empty outside that time anyway.
