Prices for most styles of wool finished largely unchanged to firm at the wool sale in Christchurch last week.
With the New Zealand dollar trading at 82.7c to the greenback, bidding and competition from a smaller-volume offering, due to recent storms, was spirited from a full bench of buyers, PGG Wrightson Wool auctioneer Dave Burridge said.
The quality of the pre-lamb shorn wool was reflected the excellent growing conditions in most parts of New Zealand, resulting also in a general increase in clean fleece weight, he said.
At the fine end of the range of mid-micron types, fleece rose from last week's prices by 6%-8%, with the balance ranging from buyer's favour to 2% stronger, New Zealand Wool Services International general manager John Dawson said.
Fine crossbred fleece and shears were firm to 1.5% easier. Coarse crossbred fleece was generally firm with long shears slightly dearer.
Representatives of interests from New Zealand and Australia, China, India and Western Europe generated the greatest purchasing activity, with support from the United Kingdom and the Middle East.
