1628 dairying submissions

Submissions on the development of 16 new dairy farms in the Omarama and Ohau areas continue to pour in to Environment Canterbury (ECan), at the rate of up to 20 an hour.

Yesterday, ECan reported it had received 1628 submissions, all except 70 during this week, on resource consent applications by Five Rivers Ltd, Southdown Holdings and Williamson Holdings which want to develop the farms into dairy farms.

Most of the submissions are coming in electronically, by email or through ECan's own website which has a special section on its home page about the developments.

Submissions on the Five Rivers and Southdown proposals close on Friday and on the Williamson Holdings on January 15.

The proposals are attracting submissions from all around New Zealand as well as from as far away as Great Britain and France after international publicity.
